Do more with less downtime: HPE ProLiant Servers and Windows Server 2019

In a 24/7 world thereโ€™s no time for IT downtime. HPE and Microsoft deliver built-in server and operating system features designed to work together to keep the business up and running.

Today, customers expect service around the clock. And employees need to be able to access applications and information from wherever they choose to workโ€”at any time of the day or night. In this 24/7 world, unplanned downtime could be a total disaster. That's why HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers and Windows Serverยฎ 2019 include a number of features that improve uptime. And because itโ€™s HPE and Microsoft, we keep it simple and affordable, including these easy-to-use (and sometimes even automated) features at no extra cost.

For example, one of the easiest and least expensive ways to improve uptime is with HPE Systems Insight Manager (HPE SIM). This is a free download for HPE ProLiant servers that enables managing the server along with HPE storage and networking products. HPE SIM monitors the health of HPE ProLiant servers and provides proactive notification of actual or impending failures, and even takes care of some fault management and event handling.

HPE DDR4 Smart Memory adds to the uptime equation, with built-in reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) features. For example, HPE Fast Fault Tolerance enables a server to boot with full memory performance while monitoring for DRAM device failures, correcting any failures while allowing the remaining portions of memory to continue to run at peak performance.

Firmware and driver updates have less of an impact on uptime with the HPE Smart Update Solution, which is included with HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers as part of the HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) management software. HPE Smart Update Technology combines HPE Smart Update Manager (SUM) with HPE Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) to reduce time-consuming, expensive, and error-prone updates that can lead to unexpected downtime.

Microsoft is working hard to reduce downtime, too. Because itโ€™s the operating system that bridges on-premises and cloud, Windows Server 2019 is built to integrate with Azure cloud backup, minimizing the risk of downtime caused by data corruption, cyber-attacks, or other disasters.

In addition, the Windows Admin Center (WAC) is a browser-based app for managing Windows Server 2019 servers, clusters, hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), and even Windowsยฎ 10 PCsโ€”and itโ€™s included with Windows licenses. WAC makes it easier to manage and monitor Windows Server environments from anywhere and HPE has released HPE Extensions for Windows Admin Center. These WAC Extensions (think โ€œplug-insโ€) help users gain quick insights when it matters the most.

All these included features in HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers and Windows Server 2019 help protect uptime so businesses of all sizes can excel in a 24/7 world. And thatโ€™s just one of the reasons why we say HPE and Microsoft give you more for less.
